### What Does Red Tractor Approved Mean?
The Red Tractor logo signifies that the poultry has been produced to strict standards covering food safety, animal welfare, and environmental protection. This assurance is particularly important for consumers who are increasingly concerned about the origins of their food and the ethical practices behind its production. Here are some key elements of Red Tractor approval:
1. **Farm Standards**: Red Tractor approved farms must adhere to rigorous standards regarding animal husbandry. This includes providing appropriate living conditions, access to food and water, and the ability for chickens to express natural behaviors.
2. **Traceability**: Each chicken can be traced back to the farm where it was raised, providing transparency in the food supply chain. This traceability ensures that consumers can feel confident about the quality and safety of the poultry they purchase.
3. **Food Safety**: The Red Tractor scheme includes strict protocols for food safety, ensuring that all poultry is handled, processed, and stored in ways that minimize the risk of contamination. This contributes to the overall health and safety of the meat.
4. **Environmental Responsibility**: Farms participating in the Red Tractor program also commit to sustainable practices that protect the environment, including responsible waste management and reducing the use of chemicals.
### The Benefits of Choosing Fresh Whole Chickens
Opting for fresh whole chickens from Bromfield's has several advantages:
1. **Flavor and Quality**: Fresh chickens are often more flavorful and tender than frozen alternatives. The care taken in raising Red Tractor approved chickens results in meat that is juicy and delicious, making it ideal for a variety of dishes.
2. **Versatility in Cooking**: Whole chickens are incredibly versatile, allowing for numerous cooking methods. Whether you choose to roast, grill, or slow-cook, a whole chicken can be the centerpiece of many meals. Plus, you can utilize the carcass for making homemade stocks and broths.
3. **Cost-Effective**: Purchasing a whole chicken can be more economical than buying individual cuts. You can enjoy multiple meals from a single bird, making it a great value for families or those looking to meal prep.
4. **Health Benefits**: Fresh poultry is a good source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. By choosing Red Tractor approved chickens, you’re also opting for meat that is free from unnecessary antibiotics and hormones, contributing to a healthier diet.
5. **Support for Ethical Farming**: By purchasing Red Tractor approved poultry, customers are supporting farmers who adhere to high standards of animal welfare and sustainable practices. This choice aligns with a growing consumer preference for ethically sourced food.
### Cooking Tips for Whole Chickens
To make the most of your fresh whole chicken from Bromfield's, consider these cooking tips:
- **Brining**: For extra juicy and flavorful meat, consider brining the chicken before cooking. A simple solution of water, salt, and herbs can enhance the flavor and moisture content.
- **Seasoning**: Don’t be shy with seasonings! A mix of herbs, spices, garlic, and lemon can elevate the flavor profile. Rubbing the seasoning under the skin can also help infuse flavor directly into the meat.
- **Roasting**: Roasting a whole chicken is a classic preparation method. Place it in a preheated oven and cook until the skin is golden brown and the juices run clear. Consider adding vegetables to the roasting pan for a complete meal.
- **Using Leftovers**: After enjoying the main meal, don’t forget about the leftovers! Use the remaining meat in salads, sandwiches, or soups, and save the bones to make a rich chicken stock.

These sausages are amazing, I requested if Bromfields could make a pork leek & stilton sausage and Chris was more than happy to oblige. As always nailed it!!! I feel I've become a bit of a sausage connoisseur over the years trying different types from food festivals and from sausage makers online, but I always come back to Bromfields!! Marmite & Cheddar are my favourite but these aren't far behind!
